Heavy Metal Found In Meteoroids Kills Cancer Cells What it is:   Researchers at the University of Warwick have discovered a new way to kill cancer cells without harming the surrounding healthy tissue. By embedding iridium into tumor cells and heating it with a visible red laser, the iridium converts oxygen into singlet oxygen, which is toxic to the tumor, interfering with its glucose metabolism and heat shock proteins.
