Darren M. Meade, advocating for sexually abused children

Imagine yourself at 14, homeless, begging for food and spare change from strangers. It's early morning when you're awakened by a cantankerous gym owner (Clyde) who takes pity on you and allows you to earn your keep and live within a room lined with bricks and packed with well-loved benches, dumbbells, and barbells all fixtures you've never seen before. Everywhere you look, you see broad shoulders, narrow waists, and massive arms on both male and female members. You can still hear Clyde's proclamation: "Guys, this is 'pup' (short for puppy) make sure you feed pup and show him how to not be so terribly skinny and look like a man."

I never planned on entering a competition but the person who took me under his (Mike K.) had a goal of winning the Mr. Pacific title. Mike, on his way home one night had a horrific car accident where he struck a tree, his car was engulfed in flames and he burned to death. To honor Mike, I entered and won the teenage division of the Mr. Pacific. That led to my first book cover of the Fundamentals of Bodybuilding written by former Mr. America and Mr. Universe, Don Ross.

I went on to enter the men's division and had the honor of sharing the stage, with the prominent bodybuilder, Danny Hester whom I competed against in the Ironman Bodybuilding Championship covered on ESPN. Danny Hester is widely considered to be among the most symmetrical bodybuilders of our generation.

But all ribbing aside, from Clyde, and the guys from the gym (especially Mike K.) I won the prestigious IFBB Middleweight North American Championship, where I competed against the premier champion bodybuilder and was chosen to represent the USA against Canada and Mexico.

Meade's breakthrough in business according to Andre Mouchard, of the Orange County Register wrote: "the Retail experiment, led by Meade, worked. During a 24 month stretch beginning in late 1992, MET-Rx sale through direct mail, as well as retail, jumped from less than 1 million to more than $40 million."

In 2003, Meade volunteered on fellow IFBB title holder, Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign for "The Governator" (a portmanteau of "Governor" and "The Terminator") Schwarzenegger won the campaign on October 7, 2003, Meade was interviewed weekly about the campaign by the Orange County Register.

In 2012, Mr. Meade and other raised questions when a 3 year-old child according to medical teams hired by the state and the alleged abuser reported the child had been sexually abused and naming his father.

Mr. Meade raised questions about how these facts were ignored, how it was handled, and the bizarre fact that shortly after the findings, the mother of the young child was allegedly sexually assaulted in a deadly home invasion targeting her, and her three young children. The young mother eventually saved her and her children's lives but a prosecutor had conflicts of interest that should have resulted in his full recusal. Mr. Meade had not only a right, but perhaps a duty to ask questions or challenge the prosecutor, Ben Smith.

There are were many questions that should have been asked by someone, not just Darren M. Meade, but by Smith himself and other members of the legal team around him. It is important to appreciate how Smith may have acted without any desire to harm and how Smith still should have respected the right and the need of others to question him.

The facts of the emotional connection between Smith and the Male Suspect are discussed later in
other articles. However, the timing of Smith’s involvement with the Male Suspect, as it was with

his future wife, is not the point. If he never met the Male Suspect until after trial the problem
remains that the prosecutor in charge of the indictment and later decisions to indict Mr. Meade
allowed himself to become committed to the credibility of the Male Suspect and the position
that best served the Male Suspect’s credibility
—that the suspect was innocent and the young mother was guilty. This conflict, regardless of when formed, created even more concerns
provided by friends and family (often driven by emotion) or the reporting of Mr. Meade.

However, none of this explains how a prosecutor would go after the family of a woman who was viewed as innocent for ten years and her young 3 year old son found by independent medical teams to been sexually abused and naming his father.  Anyone should question this decision and to punish the family for doing so shows a level of vindictiveness that is disturbing.

Mere bias also struggles to explain going after Mr. Meade or others who were at worst confused by the conflicts of interest of Mr. Smith, and at best on the right track that there was something wrong.

Schwarzenegger was sworn in on November 17. Darren M. Meade was interviewed about the 'Anatomy of the Victory.'
